Courtyard of the Gentiles

In a December 2009 address to the Curia, Pope Benedict "called for an itinerant 'Courtyard of the Gentiles'",an international forum which would foster dialogue between Christian believers and agnostics or atheists. In his Discourse of Foundation to the Pontifical Council for Culture, on December 21, 2009, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI declared "Here I think naturally of the words which Jesus quoted from the Prophet Isaiah, namely that the Temple must be a house of prayer for all the nations (Is 56:7; Mk 11:17). Jesus was thinking of the so called 'Court of the Gentiles' which he cleared of extraneous affaires so that it could be a free space for the Gentiles who wished to pray there.... He was thinking of people who know God, so to speak, only from afar; who are dissatisfied with their own gods, rites and myths; who desire the Pure and the Great, even if God remains for them the 'unknown God'" (Acts 17:23) Today, in assition to interreligioud dialogue, there should be a dialogue with those to whom religion is something foreign, to whom God is unknown and who nevertheless to be left merely Godless, buta rather to draw near to him, albeit as the Unknown. The biblical Court of the Gentiles was a larage outer court in the ancient Temple of Jerusalem that was not reserved for the Jews, but rather was open to any person independent of his culture or religion. Cardinal Ravasi developed the Pope's vision of large, open discussions "between faith and reason, secular culture and the Church." Thanks to which initiative, Cardinal Ravasi "wanted to reintroduce the ancient tradition of the 'disputed questions' - as theyl were called then - while ata that time they had to do with different opinions and theses, in this case they will be between believers and nonbelievers." He added, I am trying to see to it that this danger is avoided". He stated that I want realy fundamental questions to be asked - questions of anthropology, then good and evil, life and afterlife, love, suffering, the meaning of evil - question that are substantially at the basis of human existence. The leading intellectual question to be discussed and highlighted are always in the form of whether one choose a 'World without God' How far can the human person go in the field of creation? Are there limits, and if so, what are they?"


Em. Kard. Gianfranco Ravasi

Gianfranco Ravasi (born 18th October 1942). The oldest of three children, Ravasi was born in Merate, Province of Lecco. His father was an anti-fascist tax official who served in Sicily during World war II, but later deserted the army; it took him 18 months to return to his fammily. Ravasi would later say, "My serch has always been for something permanent, for what is behind transitory, the contingent. I'm fighting loss and death, which probably relates to the absence of my father in my first years. His mother was a schoolteacher. Ravasi decided to join the priesthood instead of teaching Greek and Latin classics, as had been his original desire, and was ordained in 1966. Between 1989 and 2007, he was prefect of the Ambrosian Library and was later appointed President of the Pontifical Commission for the promotion of the New Evangelization and Inter-Religious Dialogue. Pope Benedict had: called for an itinerant 'Courtyard of the Gentiles,"' an international forum which would foster dialogue between Christian believers and agnostics or atheists. Il-Papa Franġisku, nhar il-11 ta’ April ta’ din is-sena ħabbar li bejn is-sena 2015 u 2016 ser iniedi sena importanti fil-Knisja Kattiloka. Sena mimlija barka mill-Mulej Ġesù li huwa kollu ħniena u mogħdrija għalina l-bnedmin. Sena ta’ Ġublew straaordinarju tal-Ħniena fejn kull nisrani huwa msejjaħ sabiex iduq il-ħniena u t-tjieba ta’ Alla l-Imbierek, li huwa ta’ gost għalih li jkun mal-bniedem.

X’inhu l-iskop ta’ din is-sena?

L-istedina tal-Papa Fran&289;isku hija ċara: sabiex kull nisrani jikkontempla l-ħniena ta’ Alla. Ħniena li turi l-misteru tat-Trinità Qaddisa, l-aqwa u l-ogħla att li bih Alla jiġi jiltaqa’ magħna, hi t-triq li ssieħeb lill-bniedem ma’ Alla għax tiftaħ il-qalb għat-tama li aħna maħbuba għal dejjem minkejja l-limiti tad-dnub tagħna. Dan ser ikun żmien fejn il-Knisja tissaħħaħ u bl-eżempju turi xhieda konkreta lil dawk li jemmnu.

X’tgħidilna l-Bibbja fuq il-Ħniena.

Fl-iskrittura Mqaddsa l-kelma ħniena hija l-muftieħ biex nifhmu kif jaħdem Alla magħna bħala l-poplu tiegħu. Fit-Testment il-Qadim spiss niltaqgħu mal-espressjoni li “Alla Jistabar u Jħenn” u skont il-Papa din hija n-natura ta’ Alla. Li hu ħanin u ta’ qalb tajba. Is-Salmista, f’Salm 203 juri li l-ħniena ta’ Alla hi infinita u bla limitu. Huwa Alla li jaħfer iddnubiet tagħna kollha, li jfejjaq il-mard spiritwali tagħna u li jsalva. Alla l-imbierek jeħles lill-poplu tiegħu mill-ħakmiet ta’ ħażen li ġejjin mill-prinċep ta’ din id-dinja, hu li “jeħles lil-limjassrin,...jiftaħ Għajnejn l-għomja...jerfa’ lill-milwijin...iħobb il-ġusti...ifejjaq lil dawk li għandhom qalbhom maqsuma” (Salm 146). Forsi wieħed jistaqsi...Kemm ser idum jaħfirli Alla? Il-Kelma tiegħu tgħidilna, “Għal dejjem il-ħniena tiegħu” (Salm 136).

“Alla huwa mħabba” hekk insibu fl-Ittra ta’ Ġwanni u allura wiegħed dejjem jistenna lilna sabiex induqu mit-tjubija tal-ħniena tiegħu. Jekk wieħed jikkontempla l-vanġelu waħdu jiskopri li f’ħajtu Ġesù dejjem għażel li jkun ħanin u dan għamlu mhux biss bil-kliem imma bil-fatti saħansitra fuq is-salib lill-ħalliel it-tajjeb...”illejla tkun il-Ġenna miegħi”. Fil-ħajja kollha ta’ Gesà ma hemm xejn li fiha ma hemmx ħniena! (para 8).

Stedina

Il-Papa Franġisku qed jistedinna sabiex nagħmlu pellegrinaġġ partikulari...għax kif jistqarr hu stess hu ikona tal-mixja li kull persuna trid tagħmel f’ħajjitha (para 14). Franġisku ixebbaħ il-ħajja tagħna ma’ pellegrinaġġ fejn il-bniedem hu pellegrin li jterraq lejn iddestinazzjoni mixtieqa. Għalhekk il-Papa qed jistedinna sabiex inżuru l-Bieb Imqaddes f’Ruma u f’kull post ieħor magħżul mill-Knisja, sabiex kull nisrani jagħmel dan il-vjaġġ lejl il-qalba ta’ Alla li hija mimlija kollha ħniena. Il-Papa jgħidilna li dan il-pellegrinaġġ irid ikun stimolu lejn il-Konverżjoni, meta ngħaddu mill-Bieb Imqaddes jew mill-Bibien magħżulin mill-Isqfijiet tad-djoċesi, inħallu l-ħniena ta’ Alla tħaddanna magħha u nħabirku biex ahna wkoll nuru ħniena mal-oħrajn kif il-Missier juri magħna (para 14).

X’inhuwa l-Motto għal din is-sena?

F’paragrafu numru 14, il-Papa Franġisku jesprimi l-motto li jixtieq għal dan il-ġublew straordinarju tal- Ħ:niena “Ħanina bħall-Missier”. Għax skont Franġisku fil-ħniena għandna l-prova ta’ kemm iħobbna Alla. Huwa dejjem qiegħed hemm sabiex jiddefendina u sabiex ikun pront li jurina l-kobor tal-ħniena tiegħu kif jistqarr tajjeb l-appostlu tal-Ħniena Divina Santa Fawstina Kawalska, “intom erwieħ li tiddubitaw, jiena nneħħilkom minn quddiem għajnejkom il-velijiet tal-Ġenna sabiex nipperswadikom kemm hu twajjeb Alla, sabiex ma tkomplux iżjed tidorbu l-Qalb l-iżjed ħelwa ta’ Ġesù bin-nuqqas ta’ fiduċja tagħkom. Alla hu Mħabba u ħniena” (mid-Djarju tagħha l-Ħniena Divina Ġewwa ruħi” par. 281).

Dati Importanti u postijiet magħżula mid-djoċesi tagħna għall-pellegrinaġġi.

Fil-Bolla Misericordieae Vultus hemm indikat meta tiftaħ is-sena tal-fidi kif ukoll linji gwida sabiex id-djoċesijiet jimxu fuqhom. Is-Sena Mqaddsa Fetħet nhar it-8 ta’ Diċembru 2015, dakinhar il-Papa Franġisku fetaħ il-Bieb Imqaddes li f’din l-okkażjoni straordinarja ser ikun il-Bieb tal-Ħniena, li kulmin jidħol minnu jkun jista’ jduq l-imħabba t’Alla li jfarraġ, li jaħfer u li jimla bit-tama Para 3).

Nhar it-13 ta’ Diċembru, fit-3 Ħadd tal-Avvent, il-Papa fetaħ il-Bieb Imqaddes fil-katidral ta’ Ruma, u dakinhar ukoll infetħu l-Bibien tal-Knejjes partikulari magħżulin mill-isqfijiet tal-post. F’Malta, dawn il-Postijiet huma l-Katidral tal-Imdina, is-Santwarju tal-Mellieħa kif ukoll il-Bieb tal-Oratorju tal-Kurċifiss li jagħti għax-xbieha mirakoluża ta’ Ġesù Redentur.

Din is-sena Ġubilari se tagħlaq fis-solennità liturġika ta’ Ġesù Kristu Sid l-univers, nhar l-20 ta’ Novembru 2016 fejn dakinhar il-Papa jħeġġeġ li kull wieħed minna jkollu sens ta’ gratitudni u ta’ radd il-ħajr lejn it-Trinità Qaddisa għal dan iż-żmien straordinarju ta’ grazzja. Ix-xewqa tal-Papa hija li din is-sena tħalli l-frott mixtieq “ħalli s-snin ta’ wara jkunu mgħaddsa fil-ħniena biex tassew niltaqgħu ma’ kull persuna u nwasslulha t-tjieba t’Alla!” (para 5)
